Konqueror permits to bypass the download manager by simply drag'n'drop a link to a file (or a folder in a ftp site) into a folder in dolphin or into a folderview plasmoid. This is a great feature, specially when you only want to download a few small files. My proposal is to give one step more: include in the menu that appears when right click over a link to a file (or a folder in a ftp site ) the option "copy to", and a submenu from that option that shows the kde "places".

Just to clarify: for ftp sites you have the "copy to"/"move to" options and you can browse the folder up to find the destination one. I'm proposing a "simplified menu" with Places, and extend that menu to download from non ftp sites.
