In the wallpaper config dialog, would be nice to have a "program" option besides "image", "slideshow", and "colour". This would ask for a path to an executable (which could be written in any language). Its purpose would be to create an image that could be displayed as a wallpaper. Either write the image to a standard location, or pass the output on the command line to the script, ...
This would allow to neatly use programs such as xplanet to change the wallpaper. And anyone could easily write its own script. For instance I wrote a Perl script that downloads a random image from an online wallpaper image. But integrating that script with KDE4 is a pain. I could not find a CLI such as in Gnome (gconftool). The only solution I found is to use the slideshow mode and ask my script to write the output to the corresponding image directory, which is a very ugly solution. |

I've been after this one for about a year now. I really like my Xplanet wallpaper on KDE 3.5 under Mandriva 2008.1. I'd like to update to 2009 or 2010, but I just don't want to give up Xplanet.
I hadn't thought of the slideshow, but that may be what I have to do. Thakns. Mark

For xplanet, we already have the Marble desktop, it would probably be easier to just get maps for the other planets.

Thanks for the response TheBlackCat. I've exchanged messages with a Marble developer about this issue in the past, and he seemed very sympathetic. Tell me how I can get Marble to look a lot like this: http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/15335 ... enshot.png And I will get off the issue. Until then, I simply don't see Marble as a substitute for Xplanet. Mark
