hi, i was just renaming some files and noticed that i have to enter the same information very often.

For example the date: what about a small Button for entering the current date on the actual cursor position? (perhaps with the year in the front for ordering purpose) like 2008-08-06 or something.

here is an idea how it could be implemented: "http://www.pictureupload.de/pictures/060809145020_insert_date.jpg"

I\'ve put the picture inline to help people out.

The idea is good, but has some implications: Which date format? Why only dates?

If at all, the button should bring up a list of data that can be inserted (time and date in long and short format either, name of parent directory, etc.). With these considerations, I say +1.

hi!

thanks to TheBlackCat, i didn't find the image-inserting-button.

@majewsky: yeah, your right i think i was so concentrating on creating the image manipulation that i neglected the explanation of the whole thing.

When you push the button, there should be a little dropdown list where you can specify a date format.

but you should still not need to much klicks to get the whole thing in your new name, 2 klicks should be enough - one for "insert date" and one for choosing the format.

and you also should have short ways with your mouse, otherwise it would be easier to type the date.

perhaps also making it possible with a keyboard shortcut? but this is a minor feature, perhaps nobody would remember the shortcut...

There is not image insert button, you just need to type in the image tags
Code: Select all

There are 2 tools already available to do this krename and gwenname. These offer a lot of options for various batch and single file renaming. I don't think this is worth the trouble to have a button for date in dolphin itself as I don't think it would be used much.

GwenRename also integrates into the context menu (right click) of dolphin/knoqueror so it's just as available as the normal rename function.

I suggest to add a copy date function from the calendar/clock plasmoid.

Please edit the idea to use smaller sized image embeds.

REF:

You can use hosts like imageshack.us that offer a thumbnail link to the full sized image. Thanks in advance.

Great Idea!

Good one is creating "make backup" button. Once is it clicked, dolphin will create backup, which name contains current date inserted as suffix.

Of course creating backup of backup will create file with name original-name-03.03.2003-08.03.2003, so we can have backup of backups and user won't get lost.

Ahh.. Puting time in name is not allowed when we have only one backup for day. User can always open property dialog and we shouldn't show him too many infos.
