So, I didn't find an easy way to use openGL rending with Plasma::Wallpaper.
For example, if I want to make some openGL desktop animation like screensaver, or interactiv animation like phyiscs desktop. here some example : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEnOuMT_6wo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWD_5Ato41M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daBURNaMHF4 So , I have no idea how to do that.. Need Kwin ?It will be very nice , if we can use a QGLRender as wallpaper. |

I tried doing opengl rendering with my starfield wallpaper but it didn't work out so well. Firstly I had to make an invisble QGLWidget then do my GL drawing there. Then I called QGLWidget::renderPixmap or QGLWidget::grabFrameBuffer, I can't remember. After that I got less than 20 FPS which is slower than normal rendering. And also it draws over everything if you actually set it as your wallpaper.
I hope someone can make it easy to use openGL for plasma wallpapers. Perhaps someone who is interested in a GSOC project |

You may wish to ask on the Plasma development list as there may be other methods in which to accomplish it, which would not paint over everything.

You can already use plasmo??ds over your screensaver.
I don't think anything is needed actually but a plugin for Plasma::Wallpaper so you can use a screensaver as a wallpaper. A long-date proposal, but we're still waiting for a concretisation. |

The only hope seems to be QML2 - as long as it is another solution, but unfortunately it requires a lot of resources.
