Manual slideshow with transitions

Thu Aug 13, 2009 8:07 am
Hello,
currently I believe transitions between images (photos) are only available in various viewers in the slide show mode, i.e. with automatic advance after a configurable viewing time. I believe there is value in enabling transitions also in manual mode. Transitions were, in the old times of film slides, used for two purposes by high-end projectors
- they are visually appealing
- to avoided the dark phase between slides which is strenuous on the eyes

The second problem (eye strain) has disappeared with computer connected projectors since they do not go dark between photos. But I still sometimes find cross-dissolve transitions more appealing than switching immediately from one image to the next. Therefore I would regard it a valuable addition to an image viewer (showfoto, digikam, OpenGL viewer, gwenview, ...) to enable manual advance with transitions in slide shows. In this case, I think, one configurable transition (like cross dissolve) would be sufficient.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Best regards,
Markus

What program is this for? All image viewers? If so it would probably be better to pick one image viewer, since there is no way to tell whether the idea is implemented if it is for "all image viewers".

In principle, any decent viewer could implement this - My preference would be that one of the two kipi-plugins which do slide shows (namely "Slide Show" and "OpenGL Imageviewer") give it a shot. Maybe both could? This would IMHO make most sense for a KDE desktop.

BTW, cool logo, TheBlackCat
