The efforts to make the KDE desktop more social is a good idea.
My idea is to invite users to join the community when they first run KDE(or later opt in). The flow will be as follows in a wizard(excuse no mockups, would be nice if someone makes some . 1st Screen - Would you like to take part in the KDE community? small explanation of what it is and how they can contribute and get their bugs fixed, create artwork or do translations etc. 2nd Screen - I would like to - Become a KDE developer(choosing this option will direct them to ways to set up environment, techbase articles on getting started etc and create a bugzilla account. Maybe in future even download the required SDKs and tools to get started) - Help find and report bugs(downloads debugging symbols for applications to enable better bug reporting and creates bugzilla account) - Contribute artwork - Become a translator 3rd Screen Choose kde website signons and create them 4th Screen Do all necesary operations If people choose to opt out there can be a KCM module for community settings or something in that line. Basically the idea is to get people involved in the easiest possible way. If I want to develop for kde it would be nice if my environment is set up with this tool and i am immediately presented with junior jobs and tutorials. I think community is what makes a project like KDE work and building it into the desktop seems like a logical step. |
