Sometimes we need use PC behind a ISA Server (many people use ISA proxy in work or university environment). This Server use a NTLM portocol (thank Microsoft).if not implemented, KDE is unable to access internet.
If we resolve this problem (for example) we need to install a NTLM local proxy, but its performance is very poor. I propose that kde support ntlm protocol. |

Are there Linux backends that already support NTLM? KDE does not usually work on programing these low-level interfaces, it usually just provides front-ends for established Linux interfaces. If there is such an interface it may be plausible to get it included in the proxy configuration, but I don't think the KDE developers will be in a position to develop such an interface on their own.

TheBlackCat maybe you're right, but it seems strange that some open source project as Mozilla firefox or Chromium browser implement the NTLM authentication protocol.
The solution that I proposed was an example of how we could remedy the NTLM authentication problem but certainly it was not the final solution. Perharps I have not properly explained the problem. Sorry, but my english is very bad. |

If firefox can do it then there must be open-source methods to do it, so I will approve the idea.

It seems like your distribution did not configure your SASL library correctly. Have a look here:

thanks Alec
I have verified that the sasl2 library is installed in my linux box. Kmail works and it connect to exchange server (by imap protocol) but konqueror not connect to internet. I believe that this library is used to connect to the Exchange Server but it does still use the NTLM protocol for connecting to the Internet.Indeed in my Internet searches I not found a solution other than using a local proxy. |

@ Alec: does that mean that NTLM is already supported?

Obviusly not, since rsimone can't connect to the internet using it... But after a few Google searches, I found some related bugs: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=184588 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155707

The possibility exists that KDE as a whole supports it, but rsimone either doesn't have the necessary packages installed or has encountered a distribution-specific bug.

OK,
Although it seems that version 2 of the NTLM protocol does not exist yet |

There is libntlm (http://josefsson.org/libntlm/) which implements the Microsoft's NTLM authentication. Seems to be active too.
