You misunderstood my comment. Of course there is not requirement for Akonadi to manage email attachments. I wrote that, incidentally, this is the feature I based an Akonadi tutorial on. Which is why I called it a "fun fact". Of course any application that understands the MIME message model can recognize attachments in a mail and create a new message which does not contain them. And it's not that hard, otherwise I would have used a different example to show data manipulation. Judging by the rest of the thread it seems wise not to mention Akonadi anywhere outside a strict developer context to avoid people jumping to weird conclusions about it rather than reading the rest I wrote.
