Up/down/left/right navigation among desktops w/mouse wheel

When multiple desktops are gathered in a single row, it's ok to switch between them using the mouse wheel on the desktop background, moving left/right as it is the case now.
When they are gathered in two or more rows, it would be nice to be able to navigate from one desktop to the other not only horizontally, but also vertically, especially if your mouse has two wheels or enough buttons to do so.

Implementing mouse button support for shortcuts would also allow this.
