Hi everyone! I want to post my first idea here! I'm sure that many of you have seen Acrobat Reader under Windows, but have you seen shadow below toolbar? I made a small mockup of may idea:
http://www.mrang.pri.ee/pildid/shadow.png I think that Konqueror, Okular, Koffice, Dolphin, Text editors (Kate, KWrite) and so on should use that effect. I think this effect makes them a bit more professional. |

That does make the look nicer. But the shadow should be possible to set for all edges as well, not just top one. There are just few bad things on it. Example the Bespin style allows you to have konqueror with shadow frame. It just takes lots of CPU power. That would need to be done on GPU. But it definetly would make the window more 3D.

Most KDE applications already has a slight shadow, konqueror being one of the few exceptions.

Yes they have 1px sized shadow but about 10-15px shadow could be done as well.

I must admit this will look nice for some applications, however as a web developer I would not like to see this feature reach Konqueror. The reason being that web pages should be consistent and adhere to standards to make the life of developers and graphic designers simple.
When something is not uniform amongst browsers or is not W3C compliant yo tend to get backlash from web developers as now we have to make considerations in our design for this. The perfect example is the all hate that is found for IE6. I could give many examples on how this could cause an issues involving accessibility etc, but I will just give one as I am sure you will understand my point from this. Many websites have navigation at the very top of the page and to accompany this could possibly add their own shadow or gradient effect to the navigation plane. Now by adding an additional shadow effect could make content harder to read or just display differently to how the designer intended. Possible solution: A way to remedy this could be to do a shadow effect on Konqueror unless it is rendering a web page. |
