When we use a computer, there are several things that are stored : IM logs (Kopete, Konversation...), recently used files (text editors, video players...) and of course data about web browsing (all new browsers include a "private browsing" mode which disable history, cookies and so on). The KDE Silk project aims to integrate even more the web in our desktop, so the amount of things left behind could be even bigger.

KDE could have a global setting which allow to easily disable all these loggings. I'm not sure from where it should be accessible but a simple Plasmoid seems to be a good start.

It could be something like this :

[x] Private mode
____[ ] Recently used files
____[x] IM logging
____[x] Web browsing

IMO, this setting could be useful at work, when one takes a break and don't want to polute his workspace with things that are not related to his work

This mode can be on permanently for public internet PCs, making them much safer.

Maybe I'm missing something, but private mode affect only the data locally stored: if you are at work everything you do in the network pass through (and get stored on) the server. You cannot hide your activity from the system administrator...
So the point is: you can use the "private browsing" at home to hide your incursions in multiple X sites from your parents/wife/husband, but it is completely useless at work. It only gives you the illusion of privacy, not privacy.
Unless I'm missing something important (which is possible), I think "private browsing" is something completely pointless.

well, the "**** mode" I mentionned was a joke but the fact that I want this kind of feature at work is real... I have nothing to hide, it's just that when I use my work computer in my freetime, I don't want that my personnal files/history polute my workspace.

I know that I could use a separate account (if I was allowed to have one) but a simple switch seems much easier to use.

Moreover, there are several KDE browsers which can use this feature (Rekonq, Konqueror...)

Are there any plans for this feature to be implemented?

If there are any plans to do so, they will appear here. Please do not bump threads in the brainstorm forum, it is very disruptive.

Guest user perhaps? I mean, a new, default session, in which neither settings nor history of actions are stored.

Guest _activity_ would be much better I think :)

That's kind of like the "Anonymous tab x Anonymous window" discussion.

But, yeah, that would be nice, too.
