I also always change the shortcut to alt+space on any new install I do. And the reason is that it is the old katapult shorcut which I used in a lot in KDE3.

Alt F2 is awkward, and on my mac keyboard forces me to use the function key.
(I can't set the left Frow keys to Fkeys and the right side Frow keys to media buttons, and love using them for Amarok.) Quicksilver is the original app, btw. Launchy is meh. Gnome Do is decent, Katapult was awesome. They all use alt or meta space. It's easy to hit. Alt F2 forces you to crane your finger over in an awkward way. |

The first... Sorry for my english.
I'm using kubuntu with kde 3.x series and I used to use alt + space with katapult, but one day I had a problem with a win application under wine because alt + space has a value in windows plattform(for access to windows propertys os similar), then I changed to alt + f2 (I had probed the kde 4 series and the new krunner...). Therefore for better integration (of win&linux) I think the best option is that everybody that use kde change launchy (it's a great software, I have windows xp with it in my notebook) for using the alt + f2, it don't need any change on any. - Krunner is the "run command", I don't like a basic run command, I don't see any good reason for that. - The default "run command" in windows is a ****, and if we use the same (meta + r), we """couldn't""" use the same combination for launchy... - In launchy and this type of soft there isn't any problem for changing the keys, so there are more important things to solve. |

I don't have a problem with Alt+F2 in any way. But if somebody wants to change it to something better - okay.
But... As said before, there are "Linux standards" if you to call it like that. So I think it would be nice to discuss this in a wider way: Talking to(and hopefully agree with) Gnome and XFCE project about this topic. I don't know what exactly is the comission of OpenDesktop and all these associations but it would be nice to make something in a default way (or simply keep Alt+F2 because it is something like that). |

I want to add this request too.
I think it should be possible to have I normally set the keys when I have a fresh installation to |

I don't think it is good to change the "default" shortcut for an application at this stage.
However, I strongly like the KDE3's feature: each function can have two shortcuts. Why the feature is so useful? because you can add a shortcut without remove the system default shortcut. Krunner is the OpenDesktop's run command (Alt-F2) plys KDE3's katapult (Alt-space), so it *should* have two shortcuts. Anyway I insist one thing: all KDE4 functions should be able to assign two shortcuts. |

Okay, so assuming I did want to throw caution to the wind and change the shortcut...
I've set a global keyboard shortcut (alt-space (!!)). No problems there -- it opens just fine -- but pressing alt-space again doesn't close it. To close, I have to press alt-F2. Is there a command line switch that I need to use to make it open/close? Thanks! |
