Having a system-wide sound equalizer would facilitate enormously for instance if I changed my sound profile from laptop to headphone or to my home sound system, or if I just wanted to boost the frequencies around 300hz and dampen those around 15khz.

It's more simple then change app by app equalizer! A system equalizer boost sound from all apps.
