kdevelop python support

Wed Oct 28, 2009 9:12 pm
kdevelop is perfect for C but since qt and python are an awesome couple it would be perfect if kdevelop would support python ... i mean really support.. see the functions because of the indention level.. highlight syntax correctly... provide a class browser maybe even support the django framework..

this is ONE idea not several.. it all sums up to "support python in kdevelop" !

kdevelop python support

I would love to add about 50 votes to this. I've been looking for a good Python IDE for Python+QT4/KDE4 development, and currently the best available is one called Eric (written in Python+QT4) which tends to be a little on the unstable side (and some things like customizing syntax highlighting are a little on the too cumbersome to be of much help).

KDevelop does support scripting languages (including python, among others), but it would be nice to have the more integrated support that you mention.

I would also love to see this developed. Currently I am using Wing IDE as Eric 4 has been very unstable in the limited experience I have had with it.

I believe that if this was developed it would easily be the choice development tool for KDE python developers.

kdevelop python support

There is a KDevelop-Python-Plugin providing code-parsing and duchain-view. (but there are some bugs in the parser and it only supports 2.4, however, people suggesting new KDevelop-features are usually programmers, maybe somebody is interested in fixing the parser (look here and here))

I think the Python-indentation-mode and the highlighter work well. The duchain-implementation also contains a class-navigation. Only a good code-completion is missing. I think there are enough Python/KDE-developers, so join kdevelop-devel-maling-list and #kdevelop and implement such stuff, all the basic features are available.
