this is a rather simple thing, however i did not come across it being implemented in kmail.

I sort my emails like this: the emails I sent and I received are together in one folder, e.g. called 'private' - there might be others like 'job' like 'customers' and so on.

unfortunate: kmail saves all sent email in a folder 'Sent eMail' even when I reply to a recieved email that is stored in the folder e.g. 'private'.

Outlook had that nice and easy function to store also the sent email in the same folder the email resides that was replied to. I find this makes sense and would appreciate this function in kmail too!

There are two separate issues here - replies and the first post in any thread. Replies are easy to deal with. Every folder has a folder-setting for keeping replies in this folder, and it works perfectly.

Original posts are more difficult - and because I consider the solution to be unwieldy I think it easier to simply drag the original sent-message into the required folder. However, if you want an automated way of doing it, for each folder you will need to create a new Identity. It can be a copy of your main one, so it doesn't take too long to set up. Then you set your Sent mail directory for that identity, and finally user the folder settings to associate that folder with the new Identity.

Identities are of course managed in Configure KMail. What I have called folder settings are obtained from a right-click on the folder in question.

thank you for your information! I did not know that there is this function in the context menu of each mail folder.

The only thing you CAN do would be a automated-rule-generator kind of thing that does the following: if I moved an email of thomas.anderson@matrix.com from standard inbox where all the unspecified emails arrive to my folder 'private' kmail asks, if it should automatically create a rule to move all emails vom Neo to this folder in future. Would be neat, hu?

This would be a good thing. Second rule might be: all emails I originally send to Neo (not as a reply) should be placed in the same 'private' folder too. This would be a great thing, and spare a lot of mouseklicks.

thanks again, I always doubted that this function did not exist, but I could not find it... now I have.

If this solves your problem please add the check-mark to the message containing the solution.

The automated rule-generator is a separate idea. YOu should start a new thread to see whether this gets support from other users
