hightlight all matches when searching

I should be great to have that feature inside the bottom search bar (just like firefox).
And also remember its state: remember if the user prefer to highligth matches or not

The search box in the preview panel already does this. Why do we need it twice?

I see, that works fine, but then why having 2 different search boxes (that one and the one that appears when pressing Ctrl+F)?

Probably there is people like me that dont see the second one; so why not put that feature in the normal one (Ctrl+F)?
as we already have the code, it should be easy, right?

It's a bit confusing I guess, but one is a filter (the one on the thumbnails), while the other is a 'find' (the ctrl+F).

You are right though, the functionality of those two is very similar. Why not combine them. That's what Kate does (the 'find' behaves both as a find, by highlighting the first/current occurrence, and filter, by using a lighter highlight for all other occurrences).

I never use the search bar myself, I always use the thumbnail panel. I didn't even know it was there until I accidentally president Ctrl+F once out of habit. It provides no additional functionality.
