this idea "borrowed" from MacOSX. When a video is played (the video is not displayed in full screen mode), the background takes on a dark color so as to highlight the video played. The blackout will be gradual.

i really like to multitask.. klick the "keep above" button i placed in the upper left side of the windeco.. move the video somewhere to the right and browse the internet etc.
but.. as long as its optional i have nothing against it

I'd also like to throw in the complications of there being many different media players. I for one use mplayer for everything and don't have a UI. Perhaps you should edit your idea and include a name of a program?

He Moult in fact I predicted this kind of problem.I do not know if it's possible to manage the effect desired by kwin, which should "understand" when a media player is running with minimized window, or be the media player itself to implement this feature. I hope it is possible the first case, possibly as "effect" that you can enable when it is desired. |

Here I remember the Add Helper plugin for compiz fusion, so.. do we really need to have a custom behavior just for video? which player? what if i am multitasking, as a previous comment has noticed?

There are kwin effects to dim background windows.

I'm sorry but this feature isn't very useful, and it doesn't add to usability.

Well, I think it's quite useful. I often find myself watching a video and maybe chatting a bit, so most part of the screen is very bright/white and the video is pretty dark. It's a sharp contrast and it's not very plesant. Maybe the just the background should be darkened as I still want to see other windows (and use them).
You may not have a background this much bright, so you may not suffer from the problem. |
