OS X has an option (albeit a little hidden) that turns a folder's icon semitransparent, letting you see the icons of a few of the files/documents inside. http://lifehacker.com/5373034/tweak-qui ... e-a-folder
Is this possible to implement in KDE? --- Edited by Primoz: Just to clarify OP wishes to have transparent folders not the "slideshow of files in folder" as it could be understood.

Apart from the semi-transparency, it's already possible. IIRC, it is even turned on by default in 4.3 and later. You see previews of the documents on the folder itself, and the tooltip you get if the pointer hovers over the icon shows them enlarged.

Yeah, it's done. If you hover your mouse over a folder containing pictures, ti will automatically show previews of all pictures inside. So this idea is done, but you could rework it to include other files than pictures. Like documents or videos...

I'm aware of the preview that's already there. I'm specifically asking if the transparent folder is possible.

Then change your title and your idea to reflect this.
Now it seems like you more want the preview function...

I've take a liberty to rename your idea in transparent icons.
Also there is an option that does that in system settings-> appearance icons -> advance. But it's global and doesn't do what you ask for.
