Since kde 4.4 there is a timeline feature available: it basically shows files that were edited on a specific date in a seperate folder by using a virtual filesystem:

This is quiet useful, because you don't have to dig through the whole file hierarachy to find files. however for now there's a lacking "proper" interface for this feature: timeline should be presented in more a graphical way.
there should be a dolphin view, what does something like shown in this screenshot:

It just rocks !!!
