I found that configuring a microphone with Kmix on systems with many sound inputs can be a daunting task. Choosing the correct input source for Skype for example can be tiresome cycle of trial and error.

What i propose is an option for Kmix to display which of the input sources is currently registering sound.

Yep, very good idea. I have the same problem with multiple inputs - was going from skype to kMix just for checking if my mic is working correctly

Wouldn't it be better if this was added as an extra tab?

Because it is not needed daily and makes the interface a mess, also it should be easy because there already is a tabbar.

I agree this is just a rough mock up, it is not meant to be default look, i will add few more mock ups later with different implementation approaches.
