Hi,
I like last.fm a lot since I'm a enthusiastic music-listener. Therefor setting up last.fm is one of the first things I do when using a new music player. But what really bothers me is that I have to make this configuration every time again (there are more music players than just Amarok and for me different music players fpr different occasions are convenient) and each program has to embed the settings for this on it's own. To be honest, I'm not sure whether any KDE-specific player apart from Amarok supports last.fm, but with the status quo every player would have it's own settings though and implementing last.fm-support is harder as the configuration has to be implemented again and again. This is also a bit of the experience I got from the GNOME/GTK-world where such integration is missing. So my proposal is the make last.fm settings global, a module in the system settings would be most suitable. This module could be loaded from other applications if the settings are wanted in their UI and the configuration should be accessible to every application. This way you don't have to turn on last.fm for every media player and integration in existing media players could be clutter-less. This idea may be somehow connected to Project Silk but I don't know about there status. This is it's homepage (the URL button doesn't work): http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Silk |

I'm not very sure whether Akonadi could be protected by kdewallet so not everyone has access to the stored password
Whether the implementation is done by Akonadi or a special module is a technical detail, even if existing technologies should be used (and this idea reinforces reusage). I think the important thing is to have this feature officially in KDE so that media players would use it (as they can assure it's there). |
