I remember in the Amarok 1.x there was an option to display only the player window instead of the playlist window.
Amarok 2.x lacks this feature for choice, as I see. I know there are plasmoids to control the playlist, but I don't want to let a plasmoid open on my desktop when I don't use amarok, and I don't want to open and close the plasmoid manually too. What I propose is to develop an official amarok plasmoid (maybe also with the nice spectrum as in amarok 1.x) that is launched when amarok starts and closes automatically when amarok is no more active. Or in alternative I propose to give amarok the ability to open an external plasmoid on the desktop. |

Amarok 2.2+ has this feature. Got to the view menu, uncheck "lock layout", then uncheck "media sources", "playlist", and "context". You can make the window shorter to get rid of the blank space.

I don't think that's real functional as you'd have to undo it to be able to see everything again a better idea maybe to an a button to toggle this (ie show all panels|show no panels) |

Thank you, I didn't realized there was such a way to minimize the main windows. However it doesn't sound much practical for me: if I want to change from the mini view to the full playlist or viceversa I have to do many clicks... I think a standalone plasma control on the desktop plus the main window maybe is redundant, but more practical. |

a quicker/simpler/better idea might be to add a toggle button to "show all panels|show no panels"

OK... but also removing the menu bar, the status bar and the window decoration? And auto resizing to a decent size to fit only the media controls bar? So we fall back to the Amarok 1.x style: two modes, one main window with all the features and one reduced window style with only controls and information about currently played song. I continue to think that with a plasma applet (that you can choose to start or not) you can have a better way to control and see info without touching the main window (simply minimize and maximize it to go from a view mode to another with only one click). |

i think full and minimal modes could be nice. a lot of players have that functionality. i never used it though

Amarok should been integrated with now playing plasmoid in near future(if not yet).

seems the toobar is going to be detachable
from http://amarok.kde.org/en/Insider/Issue_14 "Newly redesigned Toolbar. When this is detached, you'll have a very streamlined Amarok at your fingertips, in a sliver of screen space" Though in the included video it's more of not viewing the panels - not a pure detaching. And it's narrow but longgggggggg |
