Feel free to abuse me for making the concept in MS Paint while I was on my Windows 7 side :P

Concept is simple... new panel is created on the side, with auto-hide set for on. What's new, is that a new container would be sitting there to be able to drop windows on. That way, something like a Kopete contact list and chat windows could sit there, as maybe the Facebook widget and Amarok. Having this "container" be available would make it a whole lot easier to get obtrusive, small windows out of the way by just allowing the panel to autohide.

Settings on it would include the ability to autoshade windows, so that only one is actually unshaded at a time to save space.

I can't say I've seen this on any OS, but it makes so much sense for small tasks. Any thoughts?

You have no excuses for using MS Paint.
KolourPaint is available on Windows Seven :p !

If I understood that well, you are proposing for windowe to be able to be a window or a plasma widget at free will ?
This is actually a very good idea, which would specially help for the small screen devices.

In the end this looks very similar to another idea, the one related to "minimize apps to plasmoids" (iirc).

Then.. why not consider this one as duplicate?

I suppose they are similar, although I guess this is more of just a new task manager on its own that displays the whole window instead of a bar and then a plasmoid when you hover over. This would essentially skip the bar part and simply put the preview/control that the minimize to plasmoid idea suggests and just automatically make it the related plasmoid. So I'm not entirely convinced that this should be marked as a duplicate, simply because that is more hover over controls, and this is more of a new task handler.

It would be better to had three additional buttons on top window part(such as /caption/title bar/whatever):
- Cascade to right
- Cascade to left

It would be nice if it was implemented as a plasmoid, but I don't think I would personally use it. Wouldn't this be similar to dragging a window to the taskbar to minimize it?

Fairly similar, except it's not a task bar since minimized applications would not go here. It's more of a "dump space," specifically having chat windows in mind, because when you have a ton of windows open with Gimp or something, I tend to get annoyed that people are chatting me and that I have to find their window. Expose and everything are nice, but to have it right off to the side on a hidden panel would be perfect.

On the note of Gimp, it would actually be nice to have those toolbars on these containers too, that way maximizing screen real estate for the picture and not the dockers. You can see that the options for this are endless.

This would be a godsend for Gimp and chatting. Kudos for the great idea!
