What about apng animated wallpapers in KDE? It would be cool if KDE brings some apngs wallpapers. At least KDE should include an apng wallpaper oxygen like.

Oh yes ! That would be so cool !
It would be very nice also to be able to get screensavers as wallpapers but well... apng image would probably be better for the CPU, easier to create and to spread. That is a good idea. |

I prefer SVG images as wallpaper. Better for memory, less for CPU.

It is a lot harder to have very complex images in an svg. And I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, anyway.

From wikipedia:
The Animated Portable Network Graphics (APNG) file format is an unofficial extension to the Portable Network Graphics (PNG) specification. I can understand a web browser providing support for non-standard formats (alfter all, html5 do not exist yet and firefox support it... in a way), but the desktop????

Well, how do things become part of the standard but that they are tried, tested, hammered out and used first. If if is really a bad idea to use APNGs in the desktop background then either we will find that out when the developers are working on adding the feature, or we will find out when it's being tested and used. In either case, we if it turns out to be a really bad idea then we just drop the feature. If, on the other hand, it isn't a bad idea then let's implement it and begin an active push to make it an official extension. Alternatively, one might ask what other animated image format is there that is acceptable by being an 'official standard'?

KDE understand MNG files since a long time.
IMO, the problem with apng is that it was officially rejected by the PNG Group, so there are little chances for apng to became a real standard.

Standard or not, I don't see a problem supporting the file format if the decoder is available. It is supported by several popular web browsers including firefox and opera.
I don't think gif was ever a web standard either, but KDE supports it. Should we get rid of gif support?

AFAIK Debian is not including APNG support in their Iceweasel version of Firefox. Who will support this library, will KDE depend and/or support it?
Do not try this at home, part 1. Second most favorite command after KDE upgrade: # chmod -x /usr/bin/kactivitymanagerd

KDE already supports optional image libraries like jpeg2000. KDE doesn't have to depend on it in order to be able to support it.

I have solution for this matter.
Support for APNG wouldn't been include in main plasma/kde brand. User will only download wallpaper part for plasma. Description of wallpaper plugin should tell user, that is not stable yet(or some think like that).
