The login-screen have some layout problems.
First of all the password field isn't very broad. I use a standard 8 characters password for my machine, and the password field only accepts 6 characters. It looks really bad, and I got confused if I were writing enough characters at the first login. Secondly, the login-screen isn't responsive at all. I get no errors when typing in a wrong username or password. Proposed solution - Make the login-screen larger, and allow for a error description. |

It should be revamped completely, what about a CLICKABLE LIST of users like all other UIs have for ages? Entering a user name and pressing a password is soooo 1990 …

@Windcape:
There are reasons against such messages. Endless discussions have been held about that topic (not only KDE-specific). In short: Detailed messages explaining WHY a login attempt has failed reveal valuable information about the systems internals. This does not only apply to a graphical login screen but in general. For example indicating, that an account actually exists but the provided password has been typed wrong helps missusage attempts a lot: you can concentrate on that account. And so on. Since the login prompt is the central portal that prevents missuage of a system it makes sense to be sensitive here. Though everyone agrees that these security aspects collide with convenience wishes. @ BajK: Such a list does exist, actually. Maybe you want to explore the options ? >> System Settings > System Administration > Users |
