Many people doesn't like to press left mouse key for some period of time and move mouse to done D&D activity. It's not simple think. Also, CTR+C and CTR+V isn't more intuitive and faster. I think, that very good solution is X Window System middle-mouse-button paste solution, but it also bounded only to text part.
Solution is very simple. Simulate D&D events. When user click some key combination, like SUPER+V, send drag event to window with focus(or with selected part of text, etc.), that mean active window. And send content to window below mouse cursor. Usage: Select text, click on image or select many files. Move mouse cursor above the destination and click super+v. The idea eliminates one click from CTR+C & CTR+V solution.
