KDE Activity Journal

Never mind the name of this idea, it's not the name that I want to use for it, but it gives you an idea what this idea is about.

"The GNOME Activity Journal is a tool for easily browsing and finding files on your computer. It uses Zeitgeist to get information on what files/websites/contacts/etc. you worked with and Tracker to get information about the current state of the files and all sorts of meta-data (including tags)."

It's basically that it would be cool and semantic (!) if there would be an Activity Journal in KDE, just like GNOME Activity Journal.

Please explain what the activity journal is. Not everyone is familiar with gnome.

There has be planned long time ago (before KDE SC 4 was beta) that there comes that kind function. Problem just is that Nepomuk is not easy technology to get working.

Nepomuk has the technology but the GUI is missing. Only few its features have be offered, like timeline:/ (type that to dolphi or any other KDE app).

You get calender about all changed/created files. You can add those to sidepanels as shortcuts. I use that a lot.

Let me rephrase that: please explain in the idea or in the thread what the activity journal is. People should not have to visit external sites to understand the idea.

That's why I've added a couple of days ago the following info:

"The GNOME Activity Journal is a tool for easily browsing and finding files on your computer. It uses Zeitgeist to get information on what files/websites/contacts/etc. you worked with and Tracker to get information about the current state of the files and all sorts of meta-data (including tags)."

Sorry, I didn't see that.

I can't believe I didn't know about this! Great idea especially if the UI gets developed well. I immediately tried to use timeline:/ in Dolphin but although there are quite a few directories they all seem to be empty. Perhaps it's because I just restarted Strigi indexing today and cleared all of Nepomuk's data, but I'll keep an eye on it!

Not sure if that's the best interface for it - I for one would love a calendar just like in KOrg which can be selected at will, and perhaps file icons would really improve usability for the file types.

It had a calender view, just like KOrganizer had. But it was in 0.1 version. Now on current version (what was released yesterday) it was removed because it did not allow good sidepanel resizing. I am very sorry about that removed feature, it was only one what I really wanted to use.

And about the file types, I believe we need more. Just the "Media" is not enough, at least for me. I would like to see "Documents" "Images" "Sound" "Videos" and so on.

There is lots of things what could be improved but...
