KPIM should have ability to manage profiles, comments, photos, and messages on social networking sites such as twitter, flickr, facebook, and LinkedIn. Most of those websites have APIs for other applications to interact with, and Kontact can act as a front end and personal cloud for those sites. This should unify most of the computing needs and make KDE a true portal to the world.
Well, I am lost.

Wouldn't this depend on someone writing an Akonadi plugin to support them?
I for one could really use this.

Hmm... For photo management, I'd sooner go to KIO than to KDEPIM.
See here: brainstorm.php#idea87355 Otherwise, yeah, I think stuff like status updates should/could be in KDEPIM, especially the likes of linking Facebook/Twitter contacts with address-book contacts.

Say, is there a Gwibber-alike for KDE? (Not just twitter, so don't mention choqok)

In short: no. Choqok's got Twitter and Identi.ca but no Facebook. I think Facebook's too complicated, with stuff like embedded images and direct comment replies, to be implemented in its simple timeline interface effectively. :/

This seems interesting. Maybe separated plugins as it was already suggested. Those could generate service-specific Akonadi resources (one for Identi.ca, one for Facebook...) with information such as user data (name, mail, user photo, etc.). I like it.

This is a great idea, and necessary as the web is becoming more social. For example, adding a (share in twitter) button in Akregator would make it easy for users to share interesting feeds/articles with others via twitter.
I would contribute and create such thing if I had the knowledge and resources to do so, but unfortunately I don't. So I hope that someone would take the lead. |
