I think it would be fitting with the kde4 way of doing things to be able to download plugins the same way we now download wallpapers, themes, etc.. It would also encourage the kde4 developer community to be more envolved, and active. Of course such plugins must be tested and approved by KDE team before they are allowed to make it via kde4. For security reasons of course.

I do not see how will this be implemented giving that all the kwin plugin is written in C++.

I don't know how difficult this would be after Zayeds' comment, but I'm going to +1 this because I know of several effects I'd like to just "download" after hearing about them.
It could also massively increase the number of effects, and relegate some of the less polished effects for downloading.
Reformed lurker.

I see no problem with this concept, however, if this were implemented, I would like to see the effects categorized. For instance, rather than scrolling down and checking off "Magic Lamp" effect for minimizing, just have a "Minimize" tab, and you choose one of the effects. That way you can see exactly what you have for minimize, maximize, and everything else.
Also, if this were implemented, I would like the animations to be able to cross over into KPresenter |
