I have an idea for a new application called "Kable" which will basically be a blank canvas. It can be used by UI designers to block out and play with UI design/layout ideas. It will support collaborative editing as well as the ability to custom-code areas of the screen.
It will have *no* windows borders & menubar, with rastergrid (off/on), pt/pix/cm/inch, fully open and extendible. Purpose; for (DTP) text, (vector)images e.a. Controls: mouse & keyboard shortcuts. No window borders & menubar/icons. This forces users/designers to build the app sensibly. App may be built/designed itself by using it with graphics, though everything you see should be your (collaborative) design.. Of course source coding on top of the app is allowed too. Blank page/area on screen. Have a lot of fun! Just put the x,y,z,t,d,c somewhere. (coordinate, time, difference, colour.)

Too late Apple but if you'd like to join, be my guest.
(And why did you not choose for Paypal?) [edit] "Blank.." is: not necessarily white.

I'm sorry, is this some sort of Qt Designer program you are suggesting that is akin to the Geocities website builder?

I couln'd find the 'Geocities website builder' in a hurry, but I doubt it. The main thing is the appearance of the App, and next you could do with it whatever you want. Including some graphical sort of Python.
But it's a design issue. Incidentally, Geosities is one of the hideous things I've come across.. it's a designer's disaster though useful perhaps. (I don't know if this judgement is accurate.)

I'm sorry, this is just too difficult for me to comprehend. Can you please rephrase this idea like this:
The current problem is ____. This is a problem because ____. A solution for this problem would be to _____. It will be able to do _____.

There is no problem. This is a design concept for a new app, such as KWrite which already exists. It's a new asset concept for KDE, with applications starting with K.
An App without a menu bar, window borders, icons or .., seemingly featureless. Kable. It will be able to do simple text editing, graphics placing, translucency defining, printing, and everything else/more anything at all, from there. IDE. Brainstorm out of the box. (Blank area which is responsive and movable on the desktop.) That's it.

Ahh, so you want a new application called "Kable" which will basically be a blank canvas which will be used by UI designers to block out and play with UI design/layout ideas? It will support collaborative editing as well as the ability to custom-code areas of the screen?
So this is something like Qt Designer?

This sounds similar to pencil. Try pencil and see... I think it could be really useful, but let me add:
- Presentation mode that allows transitions to show different screen designs, one by one - Some rudimentary controls and layouts, drop down lists with editable items, stack, flow layouts. - Export to QML The idea of these kinds of applications are to create mock ups at speed, and create little annotations on them. I also sometimes use pencil when I want to describe a possible UI to someone. The Brainstorm folks will love something like this. The most important aspect of a program like this should be that its extremely easy to use, more so than full blown UI designer applications. I hope i didnt miss the bus here |
