With the window tabbing feature introduced in KDE SC 4.4, I always found it a bit irksome to see the items displayed normally in the taskbar. I've always considered it to be a lot more intuitive to be grouped somehow. I never liked the vertical-list for window grouping but I've always wanted to see the taskbar items "merged" in some way.
I propose for windows that are tabbed together to be displayed as a segmented button in the task manager. This is an example of a segmented button for those unsure of what it is:

Neither Qt nor KDE provide a segmented button. Are you sure plasma has this?

Nope - no idea at all. I know plasma has their weird "tab" widget which is similar, but that's it. What's stopping them from creating a new widget?
