A disadvantage of most hierarchic filesystems is that you have to follow one special path to find the file you are looking for. I don't like that my system search in all my directories for e.c. all mp3-files or all doc-files and build libraries with a fixed new strukture (e.c. mp3->Artist->Album->Song).
Inspired by MS-SharePoint - which is too much designed and confusing, I thought there must be a way to use the advantage of tagging files in an optimized directory-strukture: There is one (the only) static filesystem and additionaly an virtual dir-strukture which can be constructed by own choosen tags. There will be created a virtual directory, e.c.: mp3-> reggae-> Bob Marley or Bob Marley-> mp3-> reggae or Reggae-> Bob Marley-> pics UserX-> ProjektXY-> presentations-> unfinished presentations-> unfinished (of all projects and users) It would be possible to have a dir which encludes all doc-files (or a link to it). Files should include more information for building those virtual dirs: I´m thinking in ID-Tags of MP3-files and tags of JPGs like cameramodel, ... The extension should also be a tag of the file and user defined tags can be given to files also. A very automatic and easy way would be to give very file the tags of its upperlevel directories. Not only for my computer - also for sorting files on the server of my company it would be very helpful to have such a funktion /tool. Combined in a full-text-search it could be a very powerfull tool in future to handel old bad sorted file-strutures. Thats my brainstorm - I hope it will be discussed. Does anyone know other plattforms where (non professional) people could leave their ideas for better/new programs/future? dj_poop@gmx.de |
