file tagging with shortcuts

Tue Jul 20, 2010 9:48 pm
Hello

My idea is to have a file tagging plasmoid. This plasmoid will be activated by global shortcuts (e.g. [super]+[alt]). When you use the shortcut a tagging window will be open, like a notification window. At the notification window you have the used taggs for the used filetype. Each tag has also a shortcut, so if you press the shortcut you tagged the used file.

Tagging examples:

Pictures
You select a picture (or more pictures), you push [super]+[alt] you can select the tags for pictures (e.g. Girlfriend, Landscape, Holliday,...)

Picture + [super]+[alt]+h -> file will be tagged with Holliday
You can see the tag in dolphin, digikam, gwenview,...

Audio files
When you select some audio files, you can tag the audio files with the audio file tags (e.g. Party, Wedding, Silent, wOrk,...)

Audio file + [super]+[alt]+w -> file will be tagged with Wedding
You can use the tags to create different playlists.

stars
file + [super]+[alt]+ 1,2,3,4,5

shortcuts
For me global shortcuts will be the fastest way to tag files. You can use tagging for several thinks, but when tagging takes to much time, it will be unuseless.

plasmoid
In addition for people how don't like shortcuts, or for people how are using touchscreens, a tagging list should be shown, when you move the file(s) over the plasmoid.

I think the most imported thing will be to have different tags for different filetypes.

I can make a mockup, if you think this will be a good idea.

Please recommend.

Do you know about http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Dr ... ent=111943 Drop2Tag?

But since I see that your idea is sufficiently detailed and much more functionality I'm approving it.
