Make a choice in applications KDE, where to put the tab - in the application or window titles. It is very convenient in dolphin, kopete and konsole. http://a.imageshack.us/img42/1903/92980458.png |

It could been realized by very-small window.... One problem: X Windows system disallows to exist windows with 0 size, but maybe it could been realized?

This would need to use the window tabbing feature.

Looks related to brainstorm.php#idea84636_page1, with the difference being that while the other idea suggests replacing entirely, this idea suggests that there be an option to switch between in-application tabs (the way it is now) and window tabbing. I think the main thing is for applications to be changed to allow switching between single-window + multi-tab and multi-window + single-tab (with some kind of message to the WM to put all windows in the same tab group). Of course, people should be aware that using multi-window will be a little heavier on their system due to the extra per-window overhead which is shared when using single-window.
