Import spreadsheets into KOrganizer

Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:22 am
The ability to import any spreadsheet with a Date column directly into KOrganizer. Each row in the spreadsheet would become an event/to-do in KOrganizer. KOrganizer would also use columns besides the Date. It would look for the following columns:
  • Start time
  • Stop time
  • Description
  • Location
  • Attachments
  • Attendees
...and so on, one column for each of KOrganizer's Event properties.

For any columns that KOrganizer doesn't recognize, it would simply create text boxes for them in the Edit To-do dialog.
Users could filter and sort To-do's according to one or more of the columns.
KOrganizer would allow users to add rows to the table, simply by right-clicking on a day and selecting the "Add [table-name] row" menu item. So, if the spreadsheet is named "Transactions" then the menu item would be "Add Transactions row". Rows would be removed as well. All changes should be saved directly back to the imported spreadsheet file.
I'm not sure about the following two aspects of this feature:
  • KOrganizer could detect external changes in the imported spreadsheet file and automatically update the KOrganizer interface. Probably there should be an alert message here?
  • KOrganizer could also add/remove columns

All this would be implemented as a new type of calendar, so any spreadsheets you have loaded up in KOrganizer would show up in the list of calendars.
The idea would be further extended to integrate with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and other databases, and it would even integrate with KSpread and Kexi directly.

But for the near term, it would be really nice if this feature worked with the following KOrganizer features:
  • Filtering and sorting (very useful!)
  • Printing (very useful!)
  • Templates
  • Sync with groupware
