My idea is to have the option to change in the playlist layout from Amarok, the "head" position, from the top, to the side (left, right).
I believe that this arrangement will improve the used space.

Here is a mockup, to reflect the idea of the "head" on the side.

I posted this idea back when the playlist editor was first revealed a year and a half ago, although the exact implementation was a bit different. I am not sure what, if anything, happened to it after that.

The idea included a few parts:

First, the album art would be the same as the other elements in the playlist editor, so it could be added, removed, and positioned just by drag-and-drop.

Second, elements could be resized vertically so they take more than one row.

Third, in the header layout editor the list of songs would also be an element that could be moved around and resized, but it would be a special element that could not be added or removed.

If you combine all of these, the effect is the same as your idea, but would provide much more flexibility. You could, for instance, position the album art, album title, and/or artist to the left or right of the list of songs. You could also position the total play time at the end of the list of songs. You could freely resize the album art however you want. You could have the album title at the top of the list of songs but the album art off to the left. It would allow pretty much total flexibility for the album layout.

TheBlackCat, I completely agree with you for everything what you describe, that way is much more customizable.

With the current implementation, it is not possible to set a size for the cover, the only way to do it is by adding "placeholders". Nor it is possible to change the vertical size for the tracks.

More flexibility would be great to please a wider audience. :)

I wish Amarok could have more layout options to make it more customizable. The greatest layout options are in gmusicbrowser. There are several layouts available to choose from. Let it be possible in Amarok, please.

Could you be specific as to what you don't have and what you want - saying gmusicbrowser layouts are better doesn't doesn't really explain anything

have you seen http://docs.kde.org/development/en/extr ... youts.html

Thank you for reference. Amarok has this playlist configurable options, while gmusicbrowser offers different library window layout. In Amarok there are media source, context, playlist windows. And then in media source there is Content Browser with levels, kind of a tree view.
I found this description:
Changing the order of tracks and albums

Yes it works, but is not that convenient to browse as in gmusicbrowser. At least this is how I see it. Take it as my subjective opinion. Have a look at gmusicbrowser screenshots or better try it yourself.

As you can see there are options to have different windows to search library and they can be customised. So I am talking about better customizations of library view. Of course windows can be moved to different parts of the application window.
There is even option: make it look like Exaile or Rhythmbox.
This allows easy and customised browsing of library based on different criteria that are just there and ready to choose from.

I see there is edit filter options and sort options. Actually I would like to customize this sort options. Looks like this edit filter option is for search not for defining sort options of this tree view.
I don't know if I can browse library in Amarok based on rating. Even if yes, even if it is possible to customize this media source view it is not that intuitive at least for the new users. Perhaps, it would be great if more predefined layouts for Content Browser were available. In gmusicbrowser after a few clicks on different layouts I got the one that suits me and I had many other options of layouts to choose from. In Amarok I need to study documentation to figure out all this hidden options and then customise it.
Once again, please add more predefined layouts so that new users will be able just click and see what possibilities are available in Amarok.
