In the KDE Desktop settings window, there is a lot of repeated settings, which sometimes lead to ambiguous settings.
Some examples (all on the "Desktop effects" page): - in the tab "General, you can select the desktop switching animation, which is good, but these settings are repeated in the "Animation with Desktop Cube", in the sense that the selection of one automatically means the other should be selected. Also the option "animation speed" is repeated. This setting is also repeated on the "Virtual Desktop" page - Same thing for the window switching animation (Alt-TAB). There's probably more (like minimization animations)... Compiz solves this by forcing the user to disable the conflicting effects (which is IMO not the most intuitive way...). |

I think it would make sense to categorize the effects not based on "window" or "eye candy" and such, but move the ones where only one can exist into a menu similar to Compiz's window effect menu. This menu shows tabs for each possible event (close, minimize, shade, maximize) and has a dropdown menu for the effect within the tab and advanced settings pertaining to the effect. I think this method could easily be implemented so that the tabs would include "switch desktop" or "switch windows" and whatnot, which would easily make there only be one choice since you can only choose one item in a dropdown.
