Hi, I Just noticed that google docs has one of the 'neatest' interfaces. And notably the 'rulers' are just too seamless with everything. Whereas kword's rulers look 'too cluttered and untidy' I wish that kword should copy google-docs ruler pixel-to-pixel, for an interface lift. thanks.
Kword with rulers: observe that: 1. numbers are 'put with lines' 2. lines are not vertically centered 3. the 'sliders' are 'out of rulers' screenshot: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1391/kwordrulers.png Google Docs rulers: observable neatness 1. colored 'sliders' (blue) 2. slider inside 'ruler' 3. instead of lines only numbers are used to signify a tab position 4. lines are 'vertically centered' screenshot: http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/4637/googledocrulers.png |

I agree to some degree.
1) The numbers are a bit too redundant in KWord's rulers, one for every multiple of 5 would be enough 2) the 5, 10, 15 ... could then replace the their line also, so just a number instead of the fifth, tenth etc. major line 3) the sub-sub-separators aren't necessary either (0.25 separators so to speak) - makes it look a bit cluttered indeed I don't agree however that the lines have to be centered. It might look nicer to you, but that I am sure is something subjective and relative to the user. |

Actually I think KOffice's rulers used to look very much like the ones in Google Doc, as seen here: http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/265/kword2.png.
Considering this has been actively changed in KOffice, I'm sure there must be some usability advantage to the way it's done now. Furthermore, please note that google docs uses inches, whereas your KWord uses cm, which I think is the main reason it look more cluttered. If you change your units to inches, the difference won't be that great (compare above screenshot to this where cm's are used: http://www.linux.org/apps/reviews/image ... /kword.png). |
