OK, I discovered something about the folder view plasmoid which is quite anoying. Imagine that you ask to this plasmoid to watch a folder in a USB stick, when you unmount it, the plasmoid would say "The folder doesn't exist" Then, when you plug it another time, the plasmoid is not updated. ========================================================= A smaller plasmoid : 2011 jan 20 Imagine that you ask to this plasmoid to watch a folder in a USB stick, when you unmount it, the plasmoid would say "The folder doesn't exist" Then, when you plug it another time, the plasmoid is not updated. my idea is modifying the current folder view plasmoid to be automatically updated Recent improvements -Plasmoid size can be reduced -The refresh icon disapeared -The command button to enable autorefresh disapeared (this option can be enabled by default because it's useful) ========================================================= Jan 30rd 2011 : Useless folder view are grouped I thought that when a folderview plasmoid is pointing to an inexistant directory, it can be reduce AND grouped on the side screen to free your desktop Contact me if you have other ideas david. ========================================================= First Run : 2011 jan 15 =========================================================

IMHO this functionality shouldn't be needed. Instead the plasmoid should use solid to identify this mount as usb stick. If the stick isn't mounted, it should say something like 'Please insert the usb stick XY'. The folderview should detect, when I insert the stick using solid and automatically update its view.

Why not, but in fact I use True Crypt Technologies to encrypt my drives, so I would like that when I type my password, folderview detect a new mountage or directory modification to be updated automaticaly

This might be a little out there, but if it's a USB drive, could you have the whole plasmoid transform into a small USB icon until it's plugged in, and then have it expand to show the folders once it notices that the drive was mounted? I think it's a great idea, but I would rather have it shrink down to a smaller size when not in use, rather than covering up my desktop when not needed.

Please tell me what you think about it and post some improvment if you have an idea, and if you think it's good, please vote.

I think if anyone had any other ideas, they would have voiced them. There is no need to ask for more suggestions or votes.
As I see it, the idea looks good enough as-is: auto-detect changes to the folder being viewed - if it goes away then display something to indicate that it is unavailable, if it comes back then automatically open/refresh the view.
