At the moment desktop package managers support managing software packages, download and install plugins and drivers and update all that. However, people download a lot more stuff on a daily basis. Just think of the new wallpaper you found on kde-look, or the new script for amarok, or even that new awesome plasmoid. In order to manage these "packages" one has to go to the related application, choose to install new stuff and only then are you presented with the option of install/remove/update.
My idea is to integrate the management of these packages into package managers like kpakagekit or muon (and these are just the ones I know best) so that updates of existing "stuff" could be done easily. Note that I am not asking for a package manager showing all the available packages. I am only thinking about updates and removes of already intalled "stuff". |
