I was hunting around for a dlna streaming application for Linux and was disappointed that there wasn't an easy interface for doing working with this in KDE.
dlna is a standard for streaming media to devices which includes pictures, music and videos. dlna uses upnp for discovery which means some of the infrastructure already exists in KDE: http://kodeclutz.blogspot.com/2010/10/upnp-mediaserver-kio-slave-is-out.html dlna streaming has become quite popular and is supported by: - Windows media player - Playstation 3 - Samsung android phones - Samsung televisions The application would simply allow a customizable media library to be set up, run as a background service(possibly with an existing backend) with transcoding configuration and setup for different video resolutions and profiles for different receiver devices and network speeds. |
