A number of programs in the education suite utilise source files using the .kvmtl format. Some of these programs have editing functionality that allows you to create and edit these files. The editing is basic and the programs have different editing features.
My idea is that the editing functionality is removed from these programs and a new one is created that deals solely with editing .kvtml files. The reason why I think it is a good idea is as follows: * Reduces bloat in existing programs as editing the files is not the main purpose of them. Take for example Parley/KWordQuiz. Their main purpose is to learn vocabulary. Apart from initially creating the .kvtml files, the editing will hardly be ever used afterwards. * It will hopefully promote quicker development of new features from a wider pool of developers rather than would be done by those on the individual programs. * Allow new features to be created more quickly as one developer could work on the .kvtml part and another could work on the individual part. * Allow features from one program to be easily implemented onto others. As to initial development of this idea, I can't see why it should be too hard to remove code from existing programs that code could be recycled to be used in the new program. I've had a quick look at the Parley code and it is modularised so I can't why this is not possible. |
