Hi, often talk of changing the ui activities, I thought of combine the plasmoids panel and the activities panel into one, callable by the dragging of Cashew:
http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/4539/activmock.jpg The activities icons display also the current open applications, the unified panel can be resized using Cashew and the behavior can be controlled using always Cashew: for example one click on it (with the panel open) and are displayed only the activities, another click and i can see only the plasmoids, so as to occupy less space, double click and both appear. |

I think you managed to illustrate what i have wanted long time.
-fullscreen activity management -preview of runnin tasks on every activity -easy to summon or hide the settings/list -using existing technologies and possibilities -touchscreen friendly I have very much liked the firefox 4.0 groups what are like actvities... and i very much would like to see something like Mac OS X 10.8 (lion) new feature called "mission control" for activity+virtual desktop management... the firerox 4.0 groups is just great for that thing... |

What advantage is there in being able to see the contents of the plasmoids panel and the activities panel at the same time?
Either I want to switch (or configure) activities, or I want to add a plasmoid to the desktop, but usually not both at the same time. The activities panel already has a button that allows you to quickly switch to the plasmoids panel - that's already enough integration between the two panels in my opinion. Also, combining the two panels would mean that it covers up more screen space, which is bad - because when you add a plasmoid by dragging it from the the plasmoid panel to the desktop, it would kinda suck if a large part of the desktop where you want to drag it to is not visible... |

@smls
These are all questions that I asked myself, I have found some answer (but not at all questions): see plasmoids and activities at the same time can be useful for example when i make a new activities, the plasmoids are now ready (I know that it isn't a great answer). Yes, there is already a button to switch, but in the current panel the activities are managed on the left side and the button is in the right side, same for the plasmoid, in my idea change from one to other is much less expensive. In the actual interface for add a plasmoid you have occupied all the bottom of the screen, same for manage the activities (with much wasted space in the right side), move the panels into one, that should also be resizable, are not the same? the space in the bottom remains free, plus you could vanish the panel during the plasmoid dragging on the desktop and reappear it when the operation is finished. I don't kown if i explained well, i haven't much time and my english is not good. |

If this was done well, the cashew would actually be useful.

True, I hadn't thought of that. |

+ 1 for this (sub)idea - windows should automatically vanish when opening the add widgets dialog, and the add widgets dialog should vanish when dragging the widget (after you've dragged the widget off of the dialog).
