In split mode Dolphin displays three panes:

Three panes: tree/contents1/contents2

In the current implementation acting on the tree replace the contents in the active pane, not very comfortable with wide panes

Suggestion: the tree only acts on the leftmost pane(*), but a button and keyboard shortcut are used to swap the content panes.

(*) or the rightmost for RTL countries/languages
