I often use Kfind and took a look at Dolphin's find yesterday hoping that it had improved.
One of the things I don't like about Kfind is that it lacks the ability to search multiple directories missing some out. One of the worst example of this is if I search root for some system file when I haven't a clue where it is. I have to include home which in my case has 30 odd gb of data in it when it's fully loaded. Searches in that lot often have the same problems as well. Dolphin looks to have the ideal solution to this sort of problem as directories can be selected can be pretty sure a search of unselected directories would be needed as well saving clicks. It might even be possible to search multiple directories down the directory tree based on which ones are selected. I also use contains as well on occasion. Here restricting the directories that are actually searched can have a huge impact on the time a search takes. I also feel that there is a side issue here concerning nepomuk. I did have it enabled after a fresh install but noticed delays using kmail as my emails accumulated. Concerned what would happen when I loaded all of my data files I disabled it. I had this problem with the dog in 3.x and although I suspect the new approach is better I still notice the delays. On this basis I feel it would be best to regain the ability to use the locate index. I say regain because it seems to have disappeared from Kfind although this may be down to an install problem and the cron job not running. Maybe there is an even better low level index generator. Also believe that few people with lots of data on their machines activate strigi. -
