Gnome is making great progress with Person based contact list based on Folks
http://afaikblog.wordpress.com/2011/06/ ... mment-1273

KDE doesnt seems to have any such unified contact list application .
I know KDE-Telepathy is trying to make a unified contact list using nepomuck but maybe there should be something which used Folks/QtFolks to implement a person based contact list in KDE

"QtFolks depends upon Folks (and thus GLib, telepathy-glib, etc.)"

That is the reason for me that Folks is inappropriate to be used AND because Akonadi already offers what is needed, so we dont need any second rate software to offer contacts.

(Please, dont use "based" word so much and wrong way. What you wrote in first paragraph does not make any sense. "Based" is just used today as modern trend when trying say something technical in easy manner without even explaining or understanding how they are related or just wanted to sound clever :) )

Well what I meant by "based" in my introduction was how it is used in English generally. Kde does not have "yet" any person centric contact list, folks is trying to solve the "person"centric contacts problem ( maybe you will have better comfort with the term "centric " )
Anyway the kde-telepathy lead did clarify this and they will be using nepomuck to have a person based contact list mode.

So this brainstorm request still seems valid, and maybe should be marked in works, if we do get any valid conformation from telepahy/PIM developers

You can understood what you were saying and thats all that matters. That being said, I think what you want is a plugin for nepomuk/akonadi to create interoperability between gnome's folks and the kde contact list effort. That way it could be an optional feature for those who would need it, without rewriting the entire contact list system around a 3rd party library. The Telepathy project still is fairly new, and may not yet be at the same stage as gnomes folks (which Ive never used myself)but give it some time and Im confident you'll be happy with it in the long run. Though a folks plugin will most likely not be included in any of the first releases.

One problem with English and a lot of English words (like "based") is that they are highly context-sensitive and in many cases a given word or phrase - even with full context - may have ambiguous meanings which need clarification.
In this case do you mean KDE needs to develop a contacts system based on (using) (Qt)Folks (as the backend), or do you mean KDE needs to develop a contacts system based on (inspired by/having similar features to) Folks (but using an entirely new KDE backend - akonadi/nepomuk/telepathy)? Garnering what I can from the given context I am inclined to believe that you intend the first, but I'm still not entirely sure you don't mean the second.

I would suggest you edit the title and description to clarify what you ultimately intend - a person-centric contacts manager (similar to or using the Folks contacts manager - whichever way is the best way for the developers to implement). Having a clear title and description (leaving technical details out for the developers to handle when they get around to implementing it) will greatly help in the approval process.
