I changed from gnome (ubuntu) to kde 4.6 (kubuntu) few months ago and tried to use strigi but I really prefer recoll (http://www.recoll.org) as a desktop search, which in my opinion is easier, lighter (indexing cpu usage) and faster.

I'm using recoll desktop search in KDE 4.6 without problem, but would be nice to have it integrated with nepomuk to have a better integration between recoll and KDE's future features for nepomuk.

I'm posting this idea but as I'm not a developer, I don't know the effort and feasibility to do it.
