I propose a slightly different "bugfix" bidding system:
The bugs are listed as they are now... with severity & number of votes. But the buglist maintainer watches the list and doles out the money via paypal. Perhaps there can be an added column for donations raised. Maybe we can click a +1 button which donates .05 cents US$ per click through Paypal. It's kind of like fishing. The money is the lure & the developers are the fish! Eventually there would build up a sufficient money-total where a dev will be enticed to take the bait. If he/she is the first developer who submits the successful patch then he/she gets the money via paypal. The developers are right. They'll fix what they want to fix. This will just help them to 'want to.' It also may entice other KDE users to become dev's to earn a little spare cash! On the flip side... On the 'Feature Request' issue, the Dev's can attach themselves to a request stating "I am willing to code this request for XX amount of money." And then let the community go about contributing to that effort as well. I get as frustrated as everyone else when a bug goes untouched & a feature goes unimplemented, but I have a full time job myself plus family and social responsibilities. I couldn't imagine coding in addition to that. Especially for free... and especially NOT to get flamed by users. If I'm going to do any of that I'd wish to be compensated.
Proud to be a user of KDE since version 1.0
