KDE is really configurable, and i love that. However the configurations are generally really hidden in sub menues of submenues of menus.
For example let's say i'm trying to find a particular document in a folder, so i turn on the preview mode. But then I realize that previews are not being generated. I try to configure the preview generation, so i 1. click in Preferences in the menubar. 2. click configure Dolphin. 3. move to gereral tab (why to general tab? why not services tab?) 4. open the "previews" tab. 5. search for the kind of document (how does the user know which kind of file he is looking for?) 6. enable it and close the window. I ask my self, wouldn't it be easier to have the configuration more accessible, may be using some kind of drag and drop or gesture or multitouch?? Have a look at this ugly muckup: with this different organization of settings the user would only have to: 1. perform a gesture over the preview button, may be pressing the right button or pressing with the left button and pulling down, or touching the button with two fingers. 2. select the files from that menu, or as it came to my mind after i had done the muckup, draging the file to the menu. 3. close the menu, as settings would save automatically, may be it could be possible to a "previous configuration" which would reset the configration to the saved one or installing defaults. I have only done it for one action but it's possible to apply this idea to any configuration. What do you think? Please mods fix the image if you can please |
