Non-KDE apps use KDE's File picker

Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:32 pm
Opening files in KDE, I get to use the excellent file picker, including the sftp:// and other KIO slaves.

Opening files in non-KDE apps, I cannot access sftp:// files and I have a whole different single/double click thing to deal with, the setups are all different, locations are no longer added to the left, etc.

If I open a remote sftp:// file in Dolphin that launches a non-KDE application, the non-KDE program will fail to open the file. Since the file needs to be copied locally to open it anyways, this shouldn't happen.

I would like to see KDE somehow become the file open / file save dialog for all apps when running on KDE, not just for KDE apps. This would improve consistency of behaviour and appearance.

Non-KDE apps use KDE's File picker

It's not really under KDE's jurisdiction what file picker is used I think.

Plus, the GTK-Oxygen project is really starting to make them look similar - although it certainly doesn't solve those functionality issues you talked about unfortunately.
